Why Drowzy exists

Sometimes, the warning signs are easy to miss.

Long drives, late nights, and demanding schedules can leave drivers struggling to stay alert. Drowzy is built to help identify signs of drowsiness before you talk yourself into driving a little farther.

Our mission is simple: make sure no one loses their life because a preventable moment of drowsiness went unnoticed.

How it works

A simple layer of protection for the road.

Three steps, and nothing to manage once you’re moving. Drowzy is set up while you’re parked and stays out of your way until it’s needed.

  1. Step 1: Set up before you drive.

Position your phone securely and start Drowzy before beginning your journey.

  2. Step 2: Drowzy monitors signs of drowsiness.

The app uses the phone's camera and on-device computer vision to analyse relevant facial and eye cues.

  3. Step 3: Get an alert when it matters.

Drowzy gives an audible and vibration alert when its detection system identifies signs of possible drowsiness. Respond safely and stop to rest when needed.

Features

Designed for real journeys.

Drowzy keeps things simple: watch for the signs, and make sure you notice them. No complicated settings to manage on the road.

  • Real-time monitoring

Designed to detect signs of driver drowsiness continuously as you travel.

  • Sound and vibration alerts

Gives you a clear signal, heard and felt, when the system identifies potential drowsiness.

  • On-device processing

Camera analysis takes place on your phone rather than requiring camera footage to be uploaded to a server.

  • Core detection offline

The core detection capability is designed to keep working without a continuous internet connection.

Safety and responsible use

An extra layer of awareness. Not a reason to push further.

Drowzy helps identify possible signs of drowsiness. It cannot guarantee that you will stay awake, and it cannot prevent an accident.

Drowzy is not a medical device and doesn’t diagnose sleep conditions. You remain responsible for your driving and your decisions at every moment.

On every journey

  • Prioritise proper rest

Sleep is the only real fix for drowsiness. Plan breaks on long journeys.

  • Mount your phone before setting off

Secure it in a holder and start Drowzy while you're parked.

  • Never interact with your phone while driving

Once you're moving, leave the phone alone and keep your attention on the road.

  • Pull over somewhere safe to rest

If you feel drowsy, or Drowzy alerts you, stop in a safe place and take a break.

Stories from the road

When tiredness was part of the story.

Real crashes in which a court, an investigation or the authorities linked what happened to a driver’s fatigue. We share them with care, to show why the warning signs deserve to be taken seriously.

Drowzy is a mobile app that helps drivers notice signs of drowsiness. It uses your phone's camera to watch for drowsiness cues while you drive and gives you a sound and vibration alert when it may be time to stop and rest.

It's a practical safety aid. It is not a medical device, a driver-assistance system built into your car, or a substitute for proper sleep.

With your phone mounted facing you, Drowzy uses the front camera and on-device computer vision to analyse facial and eye cues, such as how your eyes are closing over time. When those cues suggest possible drowsiness, the app alerts you.

The core drowsiness detection is designed to work without a continuous internet connection, so it can keep working on stretches of road with weak signal.

Some other features, such as signing in, syncing your trip history and managing a subscription, do need a connection.

No. Camera analysis happens on your phone. Drowzy doesn't need to upload your camera footage to a server to detect drowsiness.

The app does use online services for things like accounts, trip history and usage analytics. Our Privacy Policy explains what information is involved.

No. Drowzy can help you notice possible signs of drowsiness, but no detection system catches everything, and an alert can't make it safe to keep driving while tired.

The only real remedy for drowsiness is rest. If you feel sleepy, or Drowzy alerts you, pull over somewhere safe and take a break.

Use it on any drive where you'd like an extra layer of awareness. It's especially useful on long journeys, early starts, and late-night drives.

Mount your phone securely and start Drowzy before you set off, then leave it alone while you're driving.

Drowzy is available for Android phones on Google Play. Use the Get Drowzy button on this page to open the listing.
